Floyd Cooley Masterclass in Toronto

Post by Sasha Johnson »

The Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Canada is pleased to host a tuba and low brass masterclass with Floyd Cooley, professor of tuba at Depaul University and former Principal Tuba of the San Francisco Symphony.

The class will be held on Friday March 6, 2009 from 10-12:30 and 2-4:30 at the new facility of the Royal Conservatory, the Telus Centre for the Performing Arts at 273 Bloor Street West in Toronto.

As an orchestral player, a soloist, and a prolific tuba instructor and pedagogue, Floyd Cooley has truly set the standard in our field, and we are thrilled to have him in Toronto. All classes are open to the public.

Thanks for the alert.

As a middle age recreational player with no formal background in music, I have never attended a masterclass of any sort. I'd like to attend this one for sure. What is the protocol for this type of event? Just show up, listen and enjoy? Or, is it more of a participation opportunity? Do folks bring their horns?

I've received a few other messages regarding participation in the Floyd Cooley masterclass, so I thought I'd re-post.

As Andrew mentioned above, performing in the class is limited to current students of the Glenn Gould School. Students, professionals and amateurs from outside the GGS are welcome and encouraged to attend to listen and ask questions.

Thanks for the info.

What is the cost/registration process, or is it walk-in event?
