Mouthpiece for 3100/W

Post by Pozzie »

Recently I purchased a F-tuba B&S 3100W. I need a new mouthpiece... but I don't know if it's better a Euro or American shank for this horn. Give me a piece of advice!
Other question: I've heard good things about LM-9, but I never played a Loud... this is a good piece for this horn?

giddings and webster has better quality mouthpieces if you are thinking of going stainless steel. I personally own the MMVI baer mouthpiece and it is great I am certain their other f tuba mouthpieces are just as awesome for people who prefer different configurations. Ivan is the man on the customer service end ... I have had nothing but the best experience with all of their stuff... I also have tried out loud ... they are good too but G&W is just that little bit more clean.

Thank you ztuba for the suggestion. I tried the G&W Alan Baer MMVI for CC-tuba and I love it! This will be my next purchase...
For my F-tuba I waver between G&W MMVI (for F), LM-9 and Laskey 28F...
But... my main curiosity is euro or american shank for B&S 3100W...

I respectfully disagree.

Having owned both G&W and Loud mouthpieces I'd say they're both of the highest quality.

One thing I like about the Loud range over G&W is the screw rims. Thing is the LM9 doesn't have a screw rim option as standard. Fine if you like the standard rim but I know for sure Dave Houser will put a thread on the cup letting you choose the screw rim of your choice.
The LM9 is a great mouthpiece anyway in my opinion.

Recognise all you'll get here is opinions based on what works for individuals on their own equipment.
All the pieces you list are good and sensible.

If you can, get yourself to a decent shop and try a bunch of pieces. The starting point for a lot of guys used to be the PT64 so you could do worse than start there.

If you can't get to a shop put an ad on here for whatever you most want 'used'.

Good luck!
