I just had the chance to see the repair and cleaning work done by Dana Hofer, affiliated with Music & Arts in Itasca, IL, and was most impressed.
My friend's 60s era Alexander sustained some serious bell damage when a trunk lid slammed down on it during one of our recent blizzards. In addition, the valves on that old tuba were very clanky and the horn had not been cleaned in decades (no kidding).
This horn now looks like a brand new tuba. The dent work on the bell is invisible, the valves are tight, and the horn shines like new. In addition to the dent and valve work, the horn got a full chem clean. The cost was very reasonable and the job was done very quickly.
It's good to have a quality repair guy close by.
