Fun in Appleton, WI?

Post by bort »

I'm going to be in Appleton, WI in a few weeks, with a free Saturday afternoon/night on my hands. Anything fun to do in town? Anything music/tuba related? I won't have a car, but can taxi anywhere I need to go. Thanks!

(Oh, and I already know about the airshow in Oshkosh, looking for other suggestions. :))

Thanks, guys!

Probably no access to a car, unless I drive round-trip to do a drop-off in Madison earlier in the day. So, no car. :) Maybe I can find a way to College Avenue, that'd be fun. If nothing else, I could find a place to try out the local beer and watch the Brewers' game.

Duckskiff -- I'm only out there Friday to Sunday, else I'd take you up on your offer. Thanks anyway!

HIYA!

When in rome...

Well, WHEN IN APPLETON... You should eat at:

1. Mary's Family restaurant- OLD SCHOOL Family style restaurant. Passed down 3 generation, open since the 50's, plain old good american fare.

2. El Azteca- What, wes, mexican? Yes. This place is legit. Very good. Get enchiladas. ORDER a drink if you drink, it will be delivered to you... on the waiters head.

3. Angels- Lunch at angels is a holy experience.

4. The Melting Pot- Not many of these puppies left. But hey, you are in the cradle of cheese country, so you should eat at a CHEESE FONDUE RESTAURANT. If you are going with a woman, this place will melt her heart... seriously... it is super romantic.

Awesome, thanks Wes! I'll try to check one of those out. Cheese is pretty much my favorite food, but I'll be solo (fiancee out of town), so the fondue has got to wait. Mary's sound like a winner to me!

No problem! Mary's is pretty standard fare, but it is good, cheap, and simple. Try the chicken and dumpling soup, which has won numerous wisconsin, national, and international awards.

Perfect! Those places are always fun, and cool to see where the "real people" go to eat. :)

My fiancee is from MN, but I guess I can sneak in some WI cheese curds while I'm out there.

PS -- what's a good local beer there? (Non-Milwaukee mass produced, that is. :))

Stone Cellar Brewpub is an Appleton Brewery that is pretty good. I like IPAs and their "Pie Eyed" IPA is pretty good.

I don't know any other beer made specifically in Appleton. However, there are plenty of other Wisconsin beers that are decent. Capital, Leinies, Gray's, and New Glarus are good beers!

Spotted Cow by New Glarus is quite the Wisco favorite.
