putting a quick shine on a tuba

Post by TubaBobH »

What is the best way to periodically, and quickly, clean the exterior of a tuba? Specifically, removing the oils that our hands leave on the brass and putting a nice shine on the surface without damaging the lacquer. I seem to recall that someone once told me that they used Pledge furniture polish on their tuba. However, I think I would prefer some TubeNet advice before I start spraying furniture polish on my instrument!

Pledge is good. Doesn't have to be the brand-name stuff. Dollar store generic is about as good as it gets.

Thanks Dan. I'll give it a try.

Pledge will make the horn very slippery, however. Be carefull.

Pledge works great, but spray it on a soft cloth and then rub the tuba with it. Don't spray directly on the instrument, you may get some polish blobs in hard-to-reach places. There's nothing "quick" about having to totally rag out a tuba!
