ASO Also Sprach reflections
George Curran is a beast! I never thought I would ever hear anyone who could sway me from Kleinhammer, but he has, convincingly. The low FF chromatic runs were impecible. He was so in control that you had the feeling he could bury the entire orchestra if he wanted to turn it on. He was perfectly in control and perfectly in tune with the perfect amount of edge to the sound to compliment the tuba. Like Chris, we won't be able to keep him. The rest of the orchestra was magnificent. I would have wished for a few more strings. They performed with 58. Thomas Hooten was more than adequate on the fanfare licks but certainly no Herseth. Brice Andrus was my only disapointment, quite a surprise because I usually love his work. The horn resolution to the giant orgasmic cadence wasn't there. It just got lost in the texture instead of exploding over the top. The rest of the program, Midsummer and Korngold vln concerto were lovely. I loved this concert, but I should as I am a hopeless romantic. Michael has a new CC I think and I belive he used his R. Meinl F for the Mendelssohn.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Mike bought a Yamaha bobo F last year and that is what he used on Mendelssohn, his new CC is a Yamayork, I picked it up for him when I was in NYC and IMHO it's worth $35,000. George is a beast.
