really depends on what you want out of it PLUS they tend to differ greatly horn-to-horn. they seem to have fallen somewhat out of popularity lately, probably because they're such honkmeisters. these horns were designed for large orchestra and can create an awesome amount of sound. i do a lot of orchestra subbing and love mine for that. however, for small group gigging (quintets or small brass, for instance), it's not really ideal. (in actuality, i wish i had the funds to get a THIRD horn: my 2165, my F, and a smaller CC like a 2155 or something similar.)
also, i've heard some other 2165 players have had troubles with the valve set and, only recently, am i able to confirm that with mine to some degree.

Hi-
Instead of asking opinions on every instrument, I highly recommend going to a place like WWBW, MidWest Conf., Custom Music, and/or Army Tuba Conf. and trying out a variety of instruments that fit your needs and budget and that YOU like best and that YOU sound best on. Good luck!
Regards-

Could you elaborate on that ? It's the same valve set that's on every other Meinl-Weston CC tuba.dvtuba wrote:...

Re: Mein Weston Warren Deck Model 2165
There have been quite a few changes over the years (different valve sets, tone rings, no tone rings, 5th valve placement, etc). They are really all different animals. I'm on my second 2165. My previous 2165 was completely stock, big-valve set, and no tone ring. It had a wonderful sound, but was a BEAR to play. My current 2165 was one of Warren's own stage horns. It plays much better than my previous one. It has the big-valves, no tone ring and a bunch of other tweaks. Try one out. They're good horns. They just aren't the "horn of the week" any longer.einahpets wrote:Is this Good Or bad? What do you guys think of this meinl weston model?

Re: Mein Weston Warren Deck Model 2165
I have the one with the tone ring & older Nirshl-made valve set(not the big-valve).
It plays somewhat darker than the newer 2165 but I am extremely happy with it.
Also I don't consider them as bad horns at all, but they are the big...
If I were you, I would try the 2266. They are more user friendly mw65s
