Cosmopolitan Tuba and Euphonium Workshop

Post by druby »

For the 5th straight year, Mike Milnarik will be hosting the Cosmopolitan Tuba and Euphonium Workshop from July 10 - July 20. This year, it will be held in a location convenient to the the greater NYC, Philadelphia and Washington, DC area at East Stroudsburg University (ESU). ESU is in the Pocono Mountains of north-eastern PA and can be conveniently reached from most of the major northeast corridor interstate highways.

I have attended C-TEW for the last 3 years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mike and his team. I found the opportunity to work individually with the artists in master classes and private lessons to be fantastic. Also, I was able to perform in several Tuba ensembles performing varied literature that I never get to see at any other time of the year. Further, I got to work with a professional accompanist to present a recital number that is performed at the end of camp. C-TEW emphasizes "face time" on your horn with the professional artists as coashes and mentors. Of course the social aspects are also wonderful. You get to meet people you only normally see on stage up close and personal and pick their brains. You also get to meet other like-minded musicians of all ages. In my three years, the youngest attendee was 13 and the oldest was 74. Last year, two of the attendees were Falcone Festival nominees one of whom went on to win the Student Award in August.

This year, the camp goes for a full 11 days (2 more than previously) and includes terrific teachers and artists, including: Brian Bowman (euphonium), Matthew K. Brown (tuba), Adam Frey (euphonium), Don Harry (tuba), Jim Self (tuba), and of course, Mike Milnarik (tuba).

For any student of either euphonium or tuba, I strongly urge you to consider Mike's workshop. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, but all follow up should be with Mike Milnarik through the web site: http://www.c-tew.com. I believe the application deadline is April 21.

Sincerely,

Doug,

It's great that you posted this. Thank you so very much...well, you and Allan, for encouraging me to go last year. I don't remember when I've had such a fine experience.

Alas, I wish I could go again this year. It's a heck of a lot cheaper and the program has been kicked up a knotch. And...I could actually drive the distance rather than paying an outrageous airline bill.

I am not able to go because my mother will be visiting me during that time. The timing is just not good this year. I can't even say, have fun without me because the workshop is way above fun. It's truely a growing experience, both musically, and personnally.
