York Dorks

Post by Biggs »

I recently acquired an old (or at least old-looking) York euphonium. Silver, three pistons, nicely engraved with the Grand Rapids York logo, serial no. 11397. Pretty decent sound even when played by the likes of me.

Anybody want to take a stab at age?
Also, anybody want to recommend a mouthpiece? Think cheap "copy" mouthpieces as I am a tuba player and my euphonium playing is done almost exclusively in jest. I have a Bach 12C in there now.

I find that, for me, turn-of-the-20th-century baritones/euphs/dbs benefit from something deep and funnel-shaped, like a Conn Helleberg 5E or a Steve Mead 6BS, neither of which is particularly cheap, but not expensive either. For cheap, I'd probably go with a 51D or 6 1/2AL knockoff.

I'll add it to the surviving instrument record. 3 piston valves, I presume?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

That is correct. Thanks for the research, all!
