MD to computer problems...
Hey, this is a query for all you tech gurus out there. I've recently (last summer) purchased a 20gb mp3 player, and now, in addition to getting my massive CD collection onto it, I'm trying to get all my MD collection on there as well. The problem is, when I use the software that sony provides with their net MD's, it will not allow me to transfer music from the MD to the hard drive of the computer itself. This is especially frustrating not only because of all the music I have on MD, but also, I like to make recordings (as I'm sure many of you do) of myself on MD, and duplicate them for my students. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What kind of interface does your MD player have to the computer? What computer are you using? Both affect you options. Which MD deck you have also seams to matter.
One easy way is use the analog out and a sound card to resample it. Not as good wuality wise, but modern cards do pretty good.

Some of the forums there might be more help.

I have done this many times. I just use a mini plug to mini plug cable. I connect it from the line out/headphones of the mini disc to the line in/mic of the soundcard (you may have to experiment with which configuration gets you the best sound.) Then in real time, you record it to sound recorder (or whatever .wav prgram you use). Then convert the .wav to .mp3. This all assumes you are using windows. If you use mac, I have no clue.
