I heard a U.S. Coast Guard Band concert tonight that was quite amazing. Masterly playing, a lot of modern music, and some Dixieland Jazz for dessert. Each time I hear them, I think that they are just about as good as the other service bands (ok, start the flames if you must!). They absolutely packed a large H.S. auditorium and had standees in the back. Euphonium solo "Seascape" with James E. Jackson III showed lovely tone in legato passages.
By the way, if you get a chance to play "Resplendent Glory" by Buffalo born Rossano Galante, jump at it. Lots of bravura brilliance as well as noble melodies.

Re: Coast Guard Band Concert
James is the man! And I do agree that the USCG band is equal, if not better than, the other service bands. Unlike the other bands, the USCG is a smaller "wind ensemble" style group...and their blend is absolutely impeccable.
