Beautiful playing, Alessandro! I really enjoyed this horn at ITEC. Makes me wish I could get one.

Very cool! Your sound Mr. Fossi is fantastic! Every register of the horn sings. I'm interested in trying one since I'll be upping to a 5/4 within the next few months. And according to the projected prices you have on your blog this might be right up my alley.

It appears to have similar characteristics to the Miraphone 291 "Bruckner" CC tuba, although it looks a little more "spread-out". A very nice looking instrument.

Yup, just as I thought. The new MW/Melton "Tuono" CC tuba is basically a tweaked and updated 2155R. :D I have closely looked at the pics and demo in this thread and in the old thread. The whole bugle - bell, bottom and top bows, ferrules and even the smaller bows - are identical to my MW 2155 rotary. The 3rd slide branch and main tuning slide are identical too. The differences are the bracing, leadpipe/mouthpipe and the rest of the valve "guts". Gerhard was very smart to keep the old MW 2155 rotary bugle because it sounds so damn good. :tuba: IMO, this particular tuba 'bugle' is the best sounding of the MW CC's and one of the best sounding CC tuba bugles period. The MW "Tuono" has that same deep warm 'growl' as my horn, but probably with improved pitch, ergonomics and response. I'd love to try one :tuba:

hrender wrote:This may be an idiot question, but why would the Tuono be cheaper than the Thor?
I have been told previously that rotary valve tubas are cheaper because MW/B&S manufacture the valves in-house, where as piston valves have to be bought in from an external supplier.

Mr. Fossi,

I'm playing Pictures next month and I've been enjoying that youtube clip for weeks - even before you posted your blog on the forum. What control and stunning tone!

Anyone who hasn't checked it out, do so!

Thanks Mr. Fossi for an excellent performance and wonderful example of the tuba as a solo voice.

Dear Al,

Thanks for your kind words, I'm happy you enjoy that performance, was a great experience for me to play pictures with Gergiev and I had a lot of fun.
Gergiev has the ability to tell how he wants you to play just with a look.
