Live near NYC and looking for a fun event this weekend?

Post by jasondham »

If you are looking for a great tuba-euphonium event this coming weekend and you live near New York City, consider coming to Montclair State University's annual OcTUBAfest. The day-long event takes place on Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the new John J. Cali School of Music on the MSU campus. This year's event will feature performances and masterclasses by Scott Beaver, Principal Tuba of the West Point Band, Aaron VanderWheele, former Solo Euphonium with the New York Staff Band, Matt Brown, MSU Tuba Faculty, and Jason Ham, MSU Euphonium Faculty. Additionally, West Point Band Principal Euphonium Barry Morrison will join Jason on stage during the 1:30 performance, as well as Aaron VanderWheele for his evening recital.

The Cali School is located on the corner of Normal and College Avenues in Montclair, and is easily accessible by car or train. If you are taking the train, take the Montclair-Boonton line to the Montclair Heights Station, and take the 5-minute walk to the corner of College and Normal Avenues.

The University's address is 1 Normal Avenue, Montclair, NJ, if you are programming a GPS and coming to this event via car.

The schedule for Saturday is as follows:

9:00am - Student Recital I

10:30am - Tuba Masterclass with Scott Beaver

Noon - Lunch

1:30pm - Graduate and Faculty Recital (featuring Daniel Kerstetter, Jason Ham, and Barry Morrison, Euphoniums, as well as Colin Murray and Matt Brown, Tubas)

3:00pm - Student Recital II

5:30pm - Dinner Break
