I don't particularly like the feel of silverplated mouthpieces and tend to be very allergic to them. I have always played goldplated mouthpieces until stainless steel became popular. However, I was never 100% crazy about the way stainless felt on my face. I have been using a #2 rim with the gold H-Kote for about a year and absolutely Love It. At one point in time, it has been on solo #1, solo #2, and symphonic bottoms. I would not want to go back to uncoated stainless.
Edit: Honestly, I would prefer to still have the gold finish as an option. The black finish would raise too many questions; most people just assume I have a goldplated rim.

Too many questions? Are you afraid you'll be thrown out of witness protection?

I bought a Blokepiece #2 Euro [Muggsie] with the Gold H-Kote on the rim,
I like the feel and appearance.

I'll tell you what I think when the rim gets here. ;) (By the way, my underpart got here today, that was fast!)

I think in general an increased availability will lead to more interest as more coated rims get out into the wild. Same as the Blokepieces themselves, really... (No one in my studio has tried one yet.)

I have both the Solo #2 and Symphony w/#1 rim "Blokepieces" with black H-Kote on the Solo rim. They are both excellent pieces and I find them very comfortable even on 4 hr gigs. If I had to pick only 1 rim, I'd go with the H-Kote. Even though it is extremely smooth, my lips seem more firmly anchored than on the plain stainless. What would be the reason for coating the whole thing? Is there any effect on the sound? :tuba:

Well, my rim got here today... I think I'm going to exchange it (the outer edge on the #1 is a little sharp for my taste), but I REALLY like the H-Kote. One thing that really gets on my nerves is the crud that accumulates on mouthpiece rims (dead skin or whatever it is). With the H-Kote either it's coming off instantly or it never gets the chance to accumulate. Either way I like it!

I would be very interested in the H-Kote, but never in black. The gold is more traditional looking. In a serious setting I don't want the horn to look like it is tarted up - like a 1992 Honda CIvic that has been done up with 20 inch chrome spinner wheels. In black only would be a deal killer. Less choices - are we moving backwards to Henry Ford in 1913 - "you can have your Model T in any color you want - as long as it's black!"

I too prefer the look of gold as opposed to black. The H-Kote works very well for me.
