Horn prices

Post by bisontuba »

HI-
As I was browsing last night (which I did add to the travel tuba thread), I noticed on MusiciansFriend/Music123/WWBW, that Meinl Weston tuba prices have gone up again a fair amount--for example, the travel tuba is now over $7500+ from them plus add'l shipping. The Baer hand made horn is now just under $25K. Ouch!

Hi!
Be ready for Guitar Center type sales! They(G.C.) are the proud owners of 123, WW&BW, Musician's Friend, and ? This large conglomerate, IMHO, doesn't care about anything other than over-priced Fender and Gibson Guitars, and Chinese stuff they get for $50.00, and sell at $200.00 all day long! Usually Guitar based stores can be counted on to offer 20-30% off list price if you ask, but I doubt there's that much wiggle room on German/Swiss/Japanese Tubas! If their inventory doesn't move to the satisfaction of the corporate bean counters, expect clearance sales, followed by the dropping of traditional Branded Tubas, and other high end instruments.

As our treaasure continues to print more unbacked money, each dollar has less purchasing power for foriegn goods. Our cheep source for goods from overseas is going to gradually dry up and the expensive stuff will really get to a hurt level... But on the bright side.... if we can survive long enough.... we will be able to produce those goods again cheeper right here at home and put our own people back to work.
