I think each user should be able to close and delete their own threads once they are done with said thread.
Say someone that is selling a horn in the for sale section sells it. Instead of 5 people digging through the archives asking if it is still for sale, the owner simply closes and deletes his own thread.
It will maintain size, and open/closed threads

Re: Close and delete
I think the best compromise should be that once a seller has sold a horn, It should be his/her responsibility to change the title to reflect that it has been sold. The archiving of horns is great because it keeps former info about horns from past sellers on record. As you have probably noticed, certain horns have been traded among 5-6 different members or more. It is great as a seller to have the possibility to use the opinions about the horn that a past owner stated several years ago...
Also, maybe some king of welcome message to the board should list some of these features of "Board Etiquette." These could mention several popular topics that should not warrant a new post and certain more delicate topics: what can I do with my Degree?, How many full time euphonium players in symphony orchestras?, Should it be cut to CC
etc...

But it kind of IS like Yahoo Answers. I don't think the "board etiquette" idea is good. The idea that an item has been discussed before and should merit no new post is absurd. People come and go from this discussion board. There might be some one who has something to add that is good, solid information that wasn't in the older postings. Also, feel free to link to the older thread. Elephant does this regularly and thank goodness for it. It is good to know where the older discussions are, but just because it was discussed before and will be discussed again ad infinitum, doesn't mean a new thread shouldn't be started.PMeuph wrote:

This board is not like Yahoo Answers. There is no Best answer, no 7 day answering period, no point system for members. This board can permit discussions to be opened and re discussed several weeks, months, or years later...BRSousa wrote:

My comment concerning board etiquette was not that nobody should post a new topic if they feel they have a new twist. I was just pointing out that it would be nice to have a Guidelines about the current popular trends and the more delicate issues. This way new members could get a smooth introduction to the board.
"Etiquette" doesn't mean restraining the individual liberties, it just means that several social protocols and norms have to be determined before hand.

Talkbass has an "archives" section that the moderators move completed or terminated FS/FT/WTB threads to.
