Partners in Crime: Tuba and Trombones

Hey All,

I play in both my high school band program and the local youth symphony program. The band is smaller, basically wind ensemble in instrumentation. The orchestra is full size. What are the characteristics I should listen for when I play with the trombones? What is my role when playing with the trombones in an orchestral setting? How does my role shift when I play in a band setting with the trombones? What characteristics should I listen for in a band setting?
