Study Abroad
Hi I live in America and I wanted to try and study in a place like Germany or Amsterdam but I have no idea of how to go about doing this. Would anyone have any experience doing this? I am a college student right and I thought this would be a perfect time to do something like this. Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Study Abroad
I work in international education at Columbus State University. I studied in Germany for 6 months in my undergrad. I would research ISEP.org they have a lot of opportunities and your university may be a member. Feel free to email me if you you have any questions: AdamJohnson@columbusstate.edu" target="_blank

Re: Study Abroad
Not necessarily. I disagree, many schools offer financial aid for this sorta thing. I know at my school (San Jose State University) you pay about the same or even less to study abroad (that is if you live on campus and are not a commuter student). Look into scholarships and loans because it won't be any more than what you're probably paying for school now.Biggs wrote:Re: Study Abroad

If you go through a University would they let you study the music or would you have to study something else?

Re: Study Abroad
This totally depends upon the University you attend and the relationships it has with schools in other countries. Often, if private study is required, it can be arranged, but isn't guaranteed. One of the big things to remember is that the US has a pretty different system for music study at the collegiate level than many other countries--most schools of music won't even consider allowing you to transfer in "core" music class credits from overseas. I know of several who have gotten involved in non-university music groups while studying abroad and the education was far beyond what they would've gotten in a university/conservatory setting.TYA wrote:If you go through a University would they let you study the music or would you have to study something else?
Now, if we're talking Fulbright or some other specialty award, as long as music study is in your application, you're good to go.

Re: Study Abroad
Check to see if your college has a "Study Abroad" program. If they do, it should be pretty easy.TYA wrote:Hi I live in America and I wanted to try and study in a place like Germany or Amsterdam but I have no idea of how to go about doing this. If not...roll your own by checking with faculty in your major (or in the field you want to study abroad). Do you aspire to grad school? If so, ask those same faculty about post-grad programs.
For all of these, expect to spend at least a year in preparation.
