Doc... Harold... Thanks for helping me keep this post 'on top'. The idea of swapping for a 20J is interesting but I'ld better keep my wits about me! I would consider a trade for a Miraphone 186 in just about any condition as long as the valveset is good. If this little 184 was a BBb instead of a CC, I would probably keep it.

Steal of a Price
Somebody will be getting a steal on this Miraphone 184.
I bought a Bloke'd 5-valve 184 CC a few months ago. It is a fantastic horn. You can really put out some sound with it. Bloke cut the 5th valve tubing down to a flat whole-step.
Richard Perry at Southern Miss plays one, and he sounds amazing. It is perfect for the kind of orchestras most of us will get the chance to play in (regional groups). Playing bass bone next to Richard in the Meridian Symphony is a treat when he opens up--very exciting tone.
Roger Bobo used one in a large orchestral setting for many years.
A former teacher of mine described it as being "the perfect quintet horn."
Don't be fooled by the small size--it is a very flexible tuba. If I didn't already have one of my own, I would buy this one. The price is right!
If you are looking for an excellent CC you will kick yourself if you pass on this horn. Perfect for starting out or gigging--who really wants to haul around a 6/4 tuba for gigs? And who needs a tuba that big in the real world?
