Program Notes Help

Post by fenne1ca »

Hello all! I'm in the process of writing/researching program notes for my senior tuba recital, and I am hoping to find some fun facts on some of my pieces beyond the basic things like composers' birth/death years and publication dates. Thanks for reading (and replying, if you take the time to do so)!

Pieces I am performing:

Chopin, arr. Davis: Chopin for Tuba and Piano (preludes #3, #2, and #24)

Weeks: Triptych for Tuba and Piano (I've found practically nothing on this one, as well as its composer)

Marcello, arr. Little/Nelson: Sonata No. 5 for Tuba and Piano

Grøndahl: Concerto for Trombone and Piano

Verhelst: A Song for Japan (for Trombone Duet)

Fun facts on Clifford Weeks:

– is director of the Berklee City Music Faculty Outreach Program and the second African American educator to teach in South Boston

– served as a mediator during the desegregation of the Boston public school system in the 1970s

– on March 9, 2011 was recognized as Boston Celtics' "Heroes Among Us" award

Berklee City Music's media relations dept. (mediarelations@berklee.edu" target="_blank) should be able to provide you with a bio and c.v.
