I'm not sure what he used when... But at one point for a while he had a Miraphone 1291 (I bought it from him), and I think he went to a Yamaha 822F after that. No clue what else, or when he recorded the files.

That being said, I purchased my Kalison DS from him about three years ago. While I was talking with him, he implied that he prefers a Yamaha 822F for just about everything, if memory serves. Hope that helps.

Back when I was studying with him, he played the Yamaha 822f for everything. He had a PT6 for a while for the Colorado Symph. audition, then I think he did have a 1291 for a while. I can say that I heard him in symphony on the 822 F and he was able to get a HUGE sound on it.

He bought my YFB-822S from Rod Mathews. I know he played that for quite awhile. I suspect he still has that tuba.

It depends to which recording you were listening. https://www.boulderbrass.org/bolder-baroque was my original 822 (production number 100022). https://www.boulderbrass.org/landscapes-and-portraits was my PT6P, and on the https://www.boulderbrass.org/a-visit-from-st-nick I was back on an 822 again (different horn - this was Rod's Matthews old horn).

Walt Zeschin (former principal in the Colorado Symphony) also played on about half the tracks of the baroque CD - if memory serves he was playing a 5/4 Rudy Meinl rotary valve horn.

I do like the 822 for just about everything - agile, clear, projects well, in tune. FWIW
