Cool horn. There are/were trumpets/cornets made with what is called an 'echo bell'. Same pitch just a 'tinnier' timbre. ... sort of like a double-belled euphonium.

All funkiness aside, its beautiful. It probably plays like sXXt (who can tell...without a lead-pipe!) but you have to give Gautrot-Marquet some credit for creativity. They also made sarrusophones. Think about it, all that creativity only to go down in history as a maker of obscure instruments.

Made probably the best mass-produced ophicleides... but also some of the most incredible craftsmanship and some unique pieces. Worked on a 3v rotary cornet last year that was one of the most exceptional pieces of ingenuity and craftsmanship I've ever seen!

But they did make thousands of "normal" instruments, esp. cornets, horns and trombones. Great factory work in general.

Gautrot worked with the maker of my ophicleide, Guichard... also an exceptional and inventive pioneer in 19th century brass design.
