Kanstul F tubas in NYC area?
Curious... does any in the NY metro area have a Kanstul F tuba? I've been interested to try one out, but haven't had a chance yet!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Brett, while I like the several Kanstul F's I've played, the one 653 I've played beat them all. I -prefer- pistons to rotaries but the Cerveny seems to play more open. I also don't like the direction Kanstul has gone with their valve angles; too 621-ish for me.
The big thing though- they're not so different sizewise. You're better off keeping what you already have.

I've heard that they aren't too different in size, but I'd still like to try one for myself to find out. The 653 is a FUN tuba, but no way around the fact that it's small.

Highly opinionated: I find the Kanstul a little stiff (tankish?) but it has a solid low register, nice sound and nice valves. Also, the tuning trigger on the newer Kanstul F tubas is GREAT. The size was physically smaller, but it seemed to project very similarly to the Petruschka.

Morris Kainuma lives in the area and bought one. You might look him up.

Oh, very cool. Morris is a very discerning player, so if he has one it MUST be good. Thanks Steve!Ferguson wrote:Morris Kainuma lives in the area and bought one. You might look him up.
