Tuba bag question

Hi-
I have a tuba gig bag question. Similar to what the Dolly bags had--plastic sheet inserts between the foam padding and the cordura, what type of plastic sheets would folks recommend to make current bags --once opened up so plastic could be installed-similar to Dolly Bags? Any do you know where one can purchase the recommended protective sheets that can be cut to insert?

High-density polyethylene (HDPE) in 1/16" sheets, about three foot square, will get you what you want. Finding this in sheets this size requires a bit of investigation.

At 1/16" the material is still flexible enough to move with the bag but thick enough to absorb some small impacts. Coupled with thick, stiff padding and you have a Dolly bag type of situation. The 1/8" thick stuff is pretty stiff and does not bend into a semi-rounded tuba bag shape very well.

Go to your local "adventure sore", have them make a tuba sized backpack with extra padding exactly where YOU want it, straps where YOU want them (shoulder strap, handles, modern backpack straps, etc), pouches where YOU want them and enjoy owning a one size fits all gig bag without zippers (ok, except at the pouches maybe) which WON'T wear out and might even carry a life long guarantee (cordura, etc).

Sure, you'll pay maybe a couple hundred bucks extra, but you'll have a versatile gig bag for life. Mines been going strong for 20 years now without any signs of wear or tear!
