Mouthpiece Help?

Post by TubaZac2012 »

So I've been playing CC for almost four years now, and my only mouthpiece has been the PT88, which is a great piece. But I really want a better piece, one with a more defined tone, better high register, and one that's a funnel-shaped cup, rather than the soup bowl. But other than the PT mouthpieces, I'm unsure of what's out there. I recently traded my 1291 for a Willson 3050. I love the Willson, but I feel like the PT88 doesn't fit it very well. So I'm curious as to what piece(s) anyone would recommend. I've been considering a piece change for almost a year, but I feel like I definitely need it now, so any advice would be great!

Thanks,
-Zac

The Laskey 28H works very well with the Willson. The 30H is probably good, too, but I haven't tried it. I don't know how they would compare to the PT-88.

Zac, if you and your Willson can get up to the Memphis area, go see Joe Sellmansberger at Mid-South Music. Joe posts on here as "bloke" and has his own line of mouthpieces. I'd be willing to bet he has something that would work for you. Let us know how you make out.

Try a Yamaha CB signature replica. These are incredible, funnel shaped, and not too giant in the rim. It's amazing more people don't know about this afordable option over Helleburg 2s, Helleburgs, and other Jacobs copies; this is a reliable, every one of them is an identical early helleburg copy, and it's magnificent!
