Conn 10J on ebay

Post by bigwallys »

I bought this tuba on ebay and would like opinions on the price I paid for this type of horn. Also what can I tell about the date it was made by the serial number. It starts with a "K". Do the numbers that follow the letter mean anything? Thanks!

According to these lists, horns with a K before their serial number date back to 1967.

Here is a google search with age and several former sales (i.e to indicate potential value) and opinions about these horns.

It's a little high, maybe... but finding them in this kind of shape is almost impossible! And you won't find a better BBb... different, but not better. I love these! Great 3/4 BBb!

What are you planning for a valve-set? I assume you're just planning on using the bugle from a 10J?

It would take some thought; possibly adding to the current section, possibly putting something new on... I don't have one handy, and they so rarely have a good bell, I haven't had a chance to study one in depth.... but I love the sound and playability, so it seems a good bugle to start with!

If it's as good as it looks, I think you did pretty well.
