Good Tuba Repairman in Pensacola Area?

Post by SeanMClancy »

Looking for a reliable place to get my horn diagnosed, repaired and/or modified in the Pensacola, FL area. Specifically, I own a Conn 56J and am looking to get some good cleaning done and possibly some modifications - Realigning the fifth valve ports, getting the pistons reworked, etc... I know about Schmidt's, and love their work, but I would really like to work with a tuba "specialist" and keep it as local as possible.

I already know that most on this forum don't like the Conn 5xJ line, so spare me any sarcasm about getting a new horn, please! :D This horn was a great buy for me a few years ago and got me through my undergrad just fine!

Thanks,
Sean

Don't know of anyone but Schmidt's here. BTW they use ultrasonics for cleaning.

I had a 56J for nine years, you may find that the rotor and casing will not align. Holes punched in the wrong location on the rotor casing. Mine was off by about 1/8 inch all the way around in opposite directions.

Good luck.

Joel at Schmidt's is a tuba player and owned a Conn 56 for some time. He did some light repairs on my York 6/4. He could let you know if they are capable.
For more complicated tasks I ship to Lee Stofer. He did a wonderful job and complete redo on my 186 5U and just finished my 1910 Cerveny. Hope this helps! Tim Jackson
