What mouth piece is better?

I am looking at the gidding and webster mouthpieces and i particularly fond of the bayamo and the caver. Does anyone have one of these if so tell me what you like about it. Thanks please tell me what one you have too.

You can't learn much by reading about them, or from others talking about them. Either find a way to try them out, or simply buy them. You have to play 'em to know.

I have been a one brand mouthpiece user for many years, in the last 3 years I have been exploring other brands and styles.
And as Eupher61 has pointed out playing one is the only way to know if it is what you are looking for.

Other than asking here what worked for me was asking other players in person as I met them at events and competitions often being able to play their mouthpiece in my horn.
Keeping an eye on eBay and the for sale section gave me the chance to acquire the ones that I wanted and experiment on untried MPs cheaply.

Through the talk and try method I was able to discover that some expensive and praised mouth pieces were not for me.

Mouthpieces are a lot like underwear, you go with what fits comfy.

Hard to know just what without trying it to begin with, but boxers are cheaper than Bach.

I used to own a caver. Nice decently large mouthpiece. Nice big sound. Feels really nice against the face.
I think the throat of the Bayamo is slightly larger than the caver. I'm just not a fan of the whole stainless steel sound. To MY ear, theres not a lot of color to the sound. You dont have to worry about plating coming off though. The only way you'll know what YOU like is to try them out yourself. Hope this helps a little

I own both a caver and a bayamo, both of which sre the newer "light" versions. I tend to use the bayamo most often, and the caver for when a slightly lighter sound is needed, I.e. solos, chamber playing, etc. If Ihad to pick one, I would pick the bayamo. But, your experience may, and most likely will, differ greatly.

Seriously, you need to actually try some different types of mouthpieces- cup types, cup depths, rim diameters, rim widths etc- to see what works best for you and your tuba. An ill-fitting mouthpiece is like an ill-fitting pair of shoes- it (sometimes subtly) can hold you back.

In my area, the go-to store is Baltimore Brass, which stocks many different new and used mouthpieces and encourages you to try them out. This is the only store I have personal experience with, but I have no doubt there are other good ones. If we know what area you live in, one of us may be able to recommend a similar store.

The ones who advocate more practice are also correct. Once you find a mouthpiece that works well for you- practice, practice, practice!
