Their ad copy consists of lists of evocative terms rather than actual descriptions. They seem to choose words because they think they sound attractive and will lure money from the gullible, rather than because they refer to anything in particular. First among these is "Gerhard Schiller," and "Frankfurt, Germany," and certainly "compensating" here is such a case.

Re: This Outfit Ought To Know Better!
The compensation is psychological in nature - it's making up for the small bore by playing out of tune with itself.

Oh, you want automatic compensation! Please to allow our Frankfurt-based writers to adjust fine print!

But... but... but... Joe.. this is the same outfit that I got into a screaming match with because I had one of those POS, horribly sharp whatever you want to call it (tubas?)... in the shop attempting to make it play. The simple request was for another main tuning slide so I could make the 'corrections'. I'm not well-known for bad-mouthing folks. But... if these guys were across the street, I wouldn't darken their door. I have a REAL problem with the 'German engineering', 'Frankfort', etc. etc bull-crap. No... they don't make up crap.bloke wrote:yeah...probably.LJV wrote:Bloke the magnanimous.bloke wrote:5th valves, most of the time, are "compensating" valves.
The owners and employees of this company are nice-enough people and seem to be competitive in their pricing. They do not claim to be experts on tubas and depend on their potential customers to figure out what it is that they are offering for sale.
I stopped by there a few years ago. No one was pompous or know-it-all, and no one pretended to know very much about the instruments they have for sale. I can respect that a lot more than "making up crap".
