Shipping a horn out

Post by BigBrodtuba »

Hey you guys I have a question pertaining to sending a horn via UPS with a gigbag only. My question is what sort of materials did you guys use in order to prevent damage to the horn? Also where do you guys think I can find a box big enough to fit a horn in and packed nice and neatly?

When I was looking into shopping my Conn Giant Eb (same size bell as your horn, body a bit smaller) I measured wardrobe boxes and found them to be physically big enough to fit the horn but nowhere near big enough for safe packing. I ended up going with a way too big box I found at the UPS store and a lot of peanuts.

I don't like shipping big horns. How far will it be going? Driving or taking a bus may be the safer bet.

I shipped my 1291 in a wardrobe box, and it was fine. Maybe a little tighter around the bell than I would have liked, but within my comfort zone. Just pack the snot out of it, and you'll be fine.

I also like the wardrobe box because (even though you can't count on it), it's a box that screams "this side up" and "it's only got clothes in it, don't stack things on top of this." Again, no guarantees, but things like that sure don't hurt. :tuba:
