In love again!

Post by MaryAnn »

Some of you may remember the last time I "fell in love" was when my MW 182 F arrived.....it was just so damn cute!

Well, this time it's a Besson CC 4P+1R. The 182 is a boy, this guy is a MAN. Woo-Hoo!

I was at the AZ AIR Horns workshop this weekend, which always has Sam Pilafian as a presenter/performer. He let me play his Besson...and that is knock-down-drag-out the best tuba I've ever had my tiny little hands on. The low Bb in particular could rattle the rafters. It was surprisingly easy to play, much easier than my 184, and MUCH better in tune. It sits nicely on the chair and presents the leadpipe at the proper height. I just wish I could reach the pistons better....there was major fumbling if I tried to do anything faster than a walk, and the rotor has a long throw. Ergonomically my 184 does work better, but its sound is a mere shadow compared to my new love.

BTW, if you have never had the chance to do Sam's breathing exercise workshop, you are missing lung capacity. Find a way to go do it.

MA, who not only is in love but who WANTS ONE.

MaryAnn,

I had the chance to play a Besson CC this past weekend and I was very impressed with the horn. I thought the horn played better than the Miraphone 1291 CC with one exception. The intonation on the Besson was less than desired. Also to let you know I am a BBb player. The only horn that would make me switch is a Rudy CC, but after playing the Besson I can safely say this horn could tempt me to switch as well. Perhaps this certain Besson had some intonation issues. If you find a Besson that you love...go for it. I just thought I would share my insight. Let us know what you do.

Well, if you were born in 1940 I'm only nine years younger, so I guess it is a possibility!! (If my semi-spousal unit decides to take off.)
