Bloke Finger Buttons Pshawww!

Post by Dan Schultz »

A friend of mine had a stroke a while back. Although he's making a recovery and coming back to playing his tuba/sousa.... he's having a tough time keeping his fingers on top of the fingerbuttons. I removed the busted pearls from some old Conn fingerbuttons and turned brass discs to fit in the recesses. Then.... soldered clarinet barrel rings to them. Once the caps are screwed onto the stems, the disc/ring assembly is applied in the correct orientation to the fingerbutton recess with two-faced tape.

That's one of the reasons I like this board - getting to see a neat idea someone in the TubeNet community pulled off for the benefit of a fellow musician. Well done, Dan. Well done.

It's about time somebody found a good use for clarinets.

Having been there for a different reason, I both appreciate the usefulness AND the solution.

Well done, sir!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

i always thought these would be great for my beginner trumpet players who never oil their valves and complain in the middle of rehearsal that their valves dont work....at least they could push them up...

Dan, while the double face tape Failed. I got the buttons epoxied and gave the horn a light workout tonight! Now just get some strength and dexterity back in the hands and the chops.

Can't thank you enough for help getting me back in a chair

Yeah... Like I said Monday night at Shrine Band.... I was a little concerned about the strength of the two-faced tape. But... at least it got us pointed in the right direction. Hope the epoxy holds up!
