Post by Ansarum »

Anyone out there in the tubenet world willing to enlighten me on how I would go about replacing the felts on top of the casings of my HB-21?

Contact Joe Sellmansberger (bloke) or Alan Baer and get some Bloke Felts or a PVAK. No, it won't be the "donut" shape, but you won't regret it...

He's talking about the TOP felts. I had a Kalison horn that had the same basic type. I actually got a set of flat beige rubber replacements from the Tube Exchange. As for felt, when I worked at Hickey's music in Ithaca, NY, Gary would make them by hand from pieces of felt. Something tells me you can get pre-cut pieces somewhere and bloke may know.

If you get BlokeWashers or BaerWashers, you don't need those felt donuts anymore. The new washers go under the finger button instead of in the valve cap. I put a set of BlokeWashers on my Kalison, and I pulled out the worn felt donuts. I polished the top valve caps, and they looked pretty cool - all shiny silver with grooves in them.

For my customers and my own horns, I have never had a source for such felts so I invested in the cutting dies to make them in the custom sizes as I need them for a given job. Not sure who would stock them or where they might be ordered.

I ordered a set through Custom Music earlier this year.
