Main Tuning Slide Trigger

Assuming that no tuba has perfect intonation throughout it's range. Why not equip all tubas with some mechanisim to adjust the main tuning slide on the fly?

Additional cost (possibly significant) and weight (not significant) would be two reasons. Any others?

AKA: our instruments have intonation issues and we know it, so here's a button for you to fiddle with.

Funny... I heard a 'quip' a few years back that the inspiration of the 'slide on top' on Fred Marzans tubas was because the intonation of the CC tubas was pretty bad.

It's my experience that the 1st valve partials on the CC piston Marzans is pretty 'wonky'.

Most tubas don't seem as if they have enough length in the main slide to make the addition of a stick/trigger practical.

Also because so many tuba players are addicted to their first valve slide and their first valve slide only.
