Tuba on-board

Post by redeyal »

I know this topic had been discussed, but nowhere could I find someone that tried boarding a flight with a soft case without buying an extra seat.
I am planning on doing that tomorrow.
Flying EL-AL short-haul, having a small tuba (Eb Boosey with 15'' bell) and filled with good intentions.
I'm a big guy, so the tuba looks quite small on my back. And depends on the aircraft, it could maybe fit in the overhead compartment, and for sure in the coat compartment.
Has anyone tried that and got away with it?

Umm, I wish you the best of luck, but you need to be prepared for the very real possibility that you will be faced with (only) two choices:

1. Check the tuba; or
2. Miss your flight.

I had to buy an extra AMTRAC seat to take my Alphorn from Centralia, IL to Milwaukee!

Your best bet of pulling it off is to be first in the line for boarding and have absolutely no other carry on. If possible check seat availability online before going to the airport. If the flight is not full you have a better chance good luck
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.
