Six Studies in English Folksong- Tuba

Post by Stephen Shoop »

There are several versions of Six Studies in English Folksong available for tuba players, including the "original version" adapted for tuba by Michael Wagner and the "transposed version" by Paul Droste, which a tuba player can be read down an octave. These two are both published by Galaxy Music Corporation. (The original composition for cello published by Stainer and Bell is now in public domain.... but is also available for purchase). The only real difference between the two involves key choices made by the two arrangers. I happen to prefer the Droste version. The keys he has chosen seems to help the tuba "sing" a little better than the Wagner version. I would be interested if anyone prefers one version over the other.... and for what reason(s)?
