.22 rifles

I'm looking into buying a semi .22 rifle to keep up my shooting (oddly enough I've shot .50, .308, and a ton of 5.56 but no .22!). I'm pretty much settled on a Marlin 795 or a Ruger 10/22. The Marlin is my preference so far but I've read disappointing reviews on their quality lately. I'd prefer to buy a new rifle. Has anyone bought a new Marlin within the last six months?

You explicitly asked for semi-auto, but I'm very fond of the Cz 452, and its successor, the Cz 455. Bolt-action, pretty accurate out of the box, well built. You can put a scope on it, and you can upgrade the trigger (Timney sells a great upgrade), although the stock trigger is pretty good.

Check out a Henry Golden Boy- they are a blast to shoot! Otherwise I would go with the Marlin

Wish I could have a 10/22 - we haven't been able to have semi-auto's around here for quite a while.
Sako make a nice heavy barrel .22.

Don't know about the model 795 but I have had a Marlin 60 since the early 70's. Thousands of rounds later it is still reliable and accurate. A bit barrel heavy with a full magazine but other than that it is a wonderful rifle.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't mind a lever action, but I'd want one that loads from the action like a centerfire and doesn't have a straight stock (already certified to not work for me).

A Ruger 10/22 will last forever. It will also feed pretty much any ammo you put through it. It's a wonderful practice rife too. It's a fun rifle to hone your rifle technique, and you don't feel guilty at the end of the day after shooting 500-1000 rounds. I love my 10/22. I've had it for nearly 20 years and I've never run into any problems with it. It is pretty beat up, but I can always rely on it to perform well.

If you happen to own an AR15, another really good option is to buy a 22lr conversion kit for it. I've got a friend who has one and we've put a lot of rounds down range through that kit. You just need to stick to jacketed bullets if you end up getting one.

Unfortunately I live in an AWB county; a 10/22 or the like is fine per the rules.

What you really would love is the Browning .22. It is the sweatest little shooter you'll ever fine. Spots off a running lepard actuate.

Buy the Ruger. They are nearly indestructible, accurate, have tons of aftermarket gizmos, add-ons and accessories. Plus ruger's customer service and warranty are second to none.

I have shot probably 60,000 rounds through mine and it has never skipped a beat.

A friend traded me a Ruger 22 carbine with a 9 round clip. Had it a long time. Love it.

Go with the 10/22. Mine has never had any issues.
Go on the Ruger web page and check out all the models. The new takedown model appeals to me!
