Abbreviations and TLAs (three-letter acronyms, e.g. OSU & MSU) are OK (not to mention SOP) for subject lines, IMNSHO ...

I graduated from San Jose State University (also with a Spartan team name) so I know the feeling - also I have found several LPs of the MSU band stuck in to SJSU covers in used record stores - don't know those were a deliberate error!
