Question for computer/video gurus

Post by Dan Schultz »

I have an older Dell 'inspiron' notebook that I'm trying to use to run a small USB video camera (endoscope) for use in the shop. It works fine on my Windows 7 notebook using the software that came with it.

It came with video capture/monitor software but the instructions say that XP will run the camera with it's own software. I've tried getting the camera to work both ways... with just the XP video software and the software provided with the endoscope.

The endoscope lights up and is getting power from the USB port on the Dell but no video display. The USB ports are working for other pieces of hardware.

Any idea? Is there perhaps another piece of software I need to be looking at?

Did it start a new hardware wizard when you connected it?
Look in device manager to see if it found a driver.
Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.

XP knows the camera is present but the LEDS in the camera come on via the USB port. Just no image.

I may have discovered the problem. I haven't used this computer in years and thought it would be nice to just have it in the shop for use with the borescope.

Updates have not been done in ages and I'm in the process of installing XP Service Pack 3. ... which I think also has a high-speed USB port built in. We'll see.
