Cold Sore Remedies

I've had to deal with cold sores most of my life and have never had much luck with the over the counter stuff. If you have a history of these beasts you can probably tell when one is about to happen. Your lip will feel tingly, sensitive to the touch and slightly irritated 12 hours or so ahead of the outbreak. A single prescription Valacyclovir tablet taken every 12 hours at that time will usually prevent the cold sore from even appearing and the tingling feeling is usually gone within 3 or 4 hours. If I can't get to the pills and I have an outbreak anyway the best thing I have found is a topical prescription ointment, Denavir. I can cut the time I have an open sore from 4 days to 2 with this stuff. Have to use it 10 to 12 times a day and right before I play every time. Hope this helps. The Valacyclovir has been a real God send for me.
