Lube

Post by Peach »

Before this gets kinky let me explain that I have a couple of lower slides that have a tendency to move when I shift the top slides on my C tuba (no vented valves...).

What do you chaps use on slides you need to move only to clean the horn or dump water; not adjust with one finger on the fly?

The thickest slide lube I have is the pink Selmer stuff but I've heard folk (Wade maybe?) saying that stuff is is Royal PITA *when* it ends up in your valveset.

I have Hetman #5 Slide Oil which is great on my top slides that I move to tune. Slick.

Is Hetman 7 thicker than the pink Selmer goo?

Thanks,
MP

Joe, I know you aren't a slide puller but do you think venting pistons ever messes with a tubas' response at all?
I have limited experience with it...
