How does it play? I'd love to have one of these...I've played a couple of dogs and a couple of wonderful ones. One of these days...but, I'd love to get together with you sometime and play that thing sometime...Enjoy, Uncle!!!

One of the first contrabass tubas, a cerveny from around 1870. Notice the 3rd and 4th valve wrap in the back is still the one used today on the piggy, 601, neptune, and pt-6

I've always been partial to these two little guys. One a Cerveny, the other a German instrument that followed the Cerveny design very closely:


And also this big guy who strayed quite a bit away from that classic design and wanted everything (except the 4th valve circuit) way up front:

Well, traditionally they're in C, so you'd have to snip some somewhere. It's a cool horn of limited use, and definitely takes some getting used to. Great for Berlioz, Mendelssohn, etc.
