No question it's an early Mirafone. My question is whether it is a 186 or a 185. It might be a 185. I have a friend with a 185 in the same number range that looks like this one only he has both the original recording and upright bells. He bought it new and it still looks new.

Every 185 I've ever seen DID NOT have the brace between the bottom bow and the main tuning slide.

My own 185 built in '69 does and it's original to the best of my knowledge. I'm the second owner. It's entirely possible the horn on fleabay is a 186. You certainly see more of them then I do.
