I'm considering having a smaller bore leadpipe made for my PT15 to try to get the upper range a little more easy to slot on the horn. I would get this as an interchangeable set-up as the original leadpipe is great when I'm playing in the lower register.
I'm wondering if anybody else has gone down this road and had success with the modification?
Cheers

Re: Smaller bore lead pipe for PT15
Hello Bjorn,
There is a version of the B&S F tubas called the anniversary model(s). There is a PT-15 version that comes with two leadpipes. The stock version which is probably on your horn, and a smaller tapered version which is similar to a PT-10 leadpipe but opened out to 19mm on the large side. I don't know the part number off the top of my head, but I would ask this guy:
Ronny Münze

FWIW I've spent many hours experimenting with B&S F-Tuba leadpipes and usually floating the pipe off the bell and adjusting the receiver/mouthpiece endgap to suit the mouthpiece will slot the highrange better without losing the bottom end. The smaller pipe tightens/centers the overall response which can be desirable, but you will lose a bit of resonance from the fatter pipe. Something to consider...
Best regards from Berlin
