A horn I saw on ebay took me down memory lane with two shopping trips that i made for horns.... (I have made WAY too many)
Does anyone have any info or stories on the infamous 691 CC that Cerveny sent over in 1991? I know that I was in college and looking for a cheaper big CC, and this horn was arriving right before I was to go back in the fall. When the shipment arrived... small issue. The horn had a gorgeous sound and looked beautiful. But played in B. Not Bb or C, but B... I know some people that purchased them still and had them cut and one guy bought it cheap and had an extended lead pipe and had a fairly in tune B-Flat.....
Then in 97 I went to WWBW to try out the new MW 2141 E flats. They happened to come out at the same time they received the first Besson 983's. I was completely expecting to walk out with a 2141. Almost every 2141 had MAJOR issues with intonation...... We could not find one that really played any where close to the 983. Took home a Besson for the same price that day. I know people have talked about that first shipment being dogs, but can't remember what the issue was.
How did companies get away with sending out such out of whack equipment. I'm assuming they are play tested at the factory? I haven't heard any of these horror stories lately........
