Bent Shank?

Post by Guest User »

How do you re-round your shank? I have used a chime mallet and a small shank trombone mouthpiece, but sometimes the shank edge will split. Is this okay if I can get the little crack to close up mostly? Is there a tool for this that I can get at a hardware store? Or can a shop do this really cheaply? I dropped my old, trusty Helleburg 7B on the pavement (fell out of my sirt pocket when I was loading the 184 into a friend's car). It now has some ugly dings on the outside of the rim (not on the part that sits on my lip, though) and the shank is pretty flattened on one side. I am not happy about this. I bought this 7b about 15 years ago. It is my oldest mouthpiece!

Next month I will have to get a new 7B I guess. But until then I need to open up my shank.
