Schlipf Practice Mute #8 FS or FT

Post by TubaTJ »

I have a like-new Schlipf Practice Mute (has only been used 3-4 times) and no longer have a horn to use it with. It worked wonderfully for me with my Hirsbrunner 192 BBb, but the size #8 will also fit the following instruments: B&S GR41 CC, 3103 BBb; Besson 994 BBb; Hirsbrunner 4/4 CC and BBb; Jupiter 584 CC; Miraphone 188; New (European) York 3094 BBb; Rudolf Meinl 4/4 BBb, CC, 4345 piston & rotor CC; Thein 4/4 CC, Walton BBb.

I've tried about half a dozen different practice mutes and without a doubt, the Schlipf practice mutes were by far my favorite. It's one of the most open-feeling and quietest, and certainly the most compact! It very conveniently fit right into the Hirsbrunner's original Swiss hard case (you can leave it right in the bell!), which was a fairly tight fit to begin with, so it would easily fit in any gig bags I've seen, along with most hard cases!

I'd ideally like to trade for a size #10 Schlipf mute to fit my current horn, but I'd be willing to sell it outright for $225 (they're $300 new). Like I said, it's in like-new condition, so I'd expect a trade to be in similar condition.
