Thinking of getting an Arban's book, but which one?

I'm looking at the ones from Encore Music Publishers, and looking at some older threads on here, it seems that the trumpet Arban's books are the most complete. However, while I would not mind reading treble clef, I would still prefer to read bass clef, preferably a version of the book edited for CC tuba as opposed to BBb tuba or Bb trombone. Any suggestions on which book I should buy?

I learned from the Carl Fisher trombone edition, reading down the octave. A trombonist friend insisted I update with the Encore spiral bound one edited by Alessi/Bowman. Both books have served me very well. The Encore book extends the range a little more than Carl Fisher, and the spiral binding is convenient.

The trumpet book has the most pages, more studies, etc. It also has the most exercises in all the key signatures. It has a favorable price.

The Dr. Jerry Young & Wesley Jacobs version is the least complete of the versions I own. It is also transposed so the exercises lie best on CC Tuba.

So does the tuba book really contain all the material in the trumpet/cornet version, or is it simplified or shortened?

Just be careful that you get the actual full length Arban from Encore, rather than the "Preparatory" version. The "preparatory" book is far shorter and assumes you're playing a BBb tuba.

Shortcoming of the format is many exercises in a very limited number of keys. I have heard tell of people playing all the Eb in E, the Bb in B, etc. to compensate for this. I just spend the most time on the pages with all 12 key signatures.

You might also check out the Trombone version that is edited by Joe Alessi. It is published by the same company as the Wes Jacobs version.
