I am entertaining the idea of selling my Martin. It is a 6/4, one-piece bell, converted front-action with four pistons and a thumb rotor. It is a Gnagey-phone, with the first three pistons from a King, the fourth from a larger-bore Conn, and, at the time, Sam couldn't recall the origin of the rotor.
Is it pretty? No.
Does it knock walls down? Yes. It is extremely free-blowing and INCREDIBLY resonant. After trying many new 5/4 and 6/4 horns, I still think it blows better than all of 'em.
Why am I thinking about selling it (since I know someone's going to ask anyway)? Because I want a CC, and I've decided I don't want to cut this horn. It's far too good a horn to risk fouling it on a gamble. And to attempt having it altered the way I would prefer would be incredibly cost-prohibitive (manufacture of all-new branches, leaving originals unaltered), or at least just as much money as going out and buying a brand-new 6/4 CC. But like I mentioned, it's AWESOME as a BBb, so I'd prefer to find it an appreciative home.
I would be looking to get out of it what I have in it, financially speaking, and would include a hard case with wheels. FYI, for the price, you could send it to Dan Oberloh for a complete overhaul and installation of a MW valve cluster and STILL be into it for less than current market $$ for a good 6/4 BBb.
Interested parties should send a PM/email. Anyone within driving distance of Chicago is welcome to come give it a whirl.
Thanks for reading.
Interest in 6/4 Martin BBb, 4+1?

One other thing...
I forgot to mention one other thing. The horn is apparently from among those used by the US Navy, and is dated roughly from 1960.
(On the bell is "USN" and Aug. 1960.)
Thanks for looking,
Mitch
