I have played this horn and, FWIW, this horn is KILLER! If I had the money and the need for a large BBb horn, I would totally own this!! Intonation is great and the sound is immense and colorful. I think too many players get hung up on needing a CC horn. This horn would be great for ANY large ensemble. If you buy this horn you will NOT regret it!

5/4 BBb is the Bayreuth:

The Bayreuth model is a "tweak" of the original 5/4 BBb. There are only a couple of changes - the area around the join between the bottom bow and 1st branch is about 5mm smaller on the Bayreuth, and I think the leadpipe is also slightly different.

I too had the privilege of playing this awesome beast. The low register is like hitting the low pedals on a large organ, and just as easy as well As stated, there is nothing 5/4 about this horn, it is an absolute monster and really one of few 6/4 sized tubas I thought was both easy and FUN to play.

If I had money to play with, I would jump on this.

Unfortunately, no idea. Rudolf Meinls do not have serial numbers on them, so there really is no way to accurately keep track of them.
